Rutland, VT Barbara H. Powers Mrs. Barbara H. Powers 85, died Sunday morning August 30, 2009 at Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care. She was born December 6, 1923 in Rutland the daughter of the late William & Lydia (Hance) Hinckley. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Castleton Normal School. Barbara enlisted in the United States Coast Guard serving in WW II. She married John L. Powers on July 16, 1948 in Rutland and the couple made there home in Middletown Springs for many years. She was a member of the West Rutland American Legion and a former member of the Middletown Springs P.T.A and the Roundabout. Barbara enjoyed knitting, embroidering, playing bingo and traveling with her sisters. Survivors are her children, William D. Powers, of Idaho, Andrew J. Powers & his wife Susan, of North Carolina Lydia Taylor & her husband Roy, of Middletown Springs, Raymond J. & his wife Katherine, of Pa, Karen Kirkpatrick & her husband Kevin, of Burlington and Sue Powers-Bellew & her husband Steve, of Middlebury. Also by her eight grandchildren, Jeffery Powers, of Alaska, Cynthia Taylor-Patch, of Tinmouth, Jennifer Harke, of North Carolina, Allison Powers, of North Carolina, Erin Kirkpatrick, of Burlington, Ashleigh Powers, of North Carolina, Rebeccah Taylor, of Florence and Kelly Kirkpatrick, of Burlington, and by her three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Husband, John L. Powers, by her two brothers, Phillip and Richard Hinckley, and by her three sisters, Inez Hinckley, Irene Hinckley and Josephine Hinckley. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday September 1,2009 from 5-7 PM at the Ducharme Funeral Home located at 1939 main street Castleton. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday September 2,2009 at 11 AM at the Ducharme funeral home. The Rev. Holly Noble will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Middletown Springs. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Poultney Rescue Squad Inc. Society. At P.O.
