Brett P. Kent

December 14, 1977 – May 23, 2026.

The world has lost a loving man. Full of wit, laughter, and a smile that lit up the room.

Brett was born on December 14, 1977, in Rutland Vermont. The son of Patti and Michael Horvath. After graduating from Whitehall High School in 1996, he attended Cobleskill College. He spent most of his career as the owner of StateLine Construction. Brett enjoyed creating a vision for the clients he was building for, with a particular passion for tile work. There are countless pieces admired throughout so many homes and businesses.

Outside of his professional life, Brett had a need for speed and enjoyed racing 4-Wheelers, Go-Karts, and Dirt Bikes; making sure his children would and could do the same. You could always drive by and see one of the Kents riding some sort of power sports with a German Shepard (Sparta) running not too far behind. He had an infectious sense of humor that no matter the circumstances could put a smile on one’s face.

Brett’s world was his children, Brady Kent and Izabella Kent. The love he had for them was so profound that it became his guiding force in countless ways. For those of you that knew him, you are aware of that piercing whistle that the kids could always hear and knew it was Dad without even looking. Especially during sporting events. Brett also enjoyed trips to visit family in Florida, “Bowing up” while tarpon fishing, hiking/exploring, teaching Brady how to ride, playing UNO with Little B, or any of the spots with the #282Crew. Braaaapppp !!!

Brett is survived by his two children Brady Philip and Izabella Rose, his sister Ashley Wert, and his “Old Man”, Michael Horvath. 3 Brothers, Eric Kent (Stephanie), Adam Kent (Danielle), and Ryan Kent (Marie), along with seven cherished nieces and nephews; Jamyn and Aubrey Wert, Trevor and Aubrey Kent, Maddy and Troy Kent, and Brooks Kent. His grandparents Zollie and Lorraine Horvath and his Uncle Zollie Horvath Jr.

He was preceded by his grandparents Phil and Barbara Lussier, and his mother, Patti Horvath.

Calling hours will be Friday June 5th 4-6 pm at Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton VT. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In Brett’s honor, always lend a helping hand to those in need.
