Obituary

Brian P. Dempsey, 55, of Castleton VT passed on Friday March 23, 2012 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by family and friends. Born in Scranton, PA., he was the son of the late Thomas P. and Mary Higgins Dempsey of Dunmore, PA. Brian graduated from the Scranton Preparatory School, Stetson University, and obtained a Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School. After practicing law for five years in PA, Brian moved back to Vermont where he continued to practice for two more decades. He also taught business law at both Castleton State College and the College of St. Joseph. He coached CYO basketball for many years, leading his team to win the Vermont state championship in 1989. Brian loved history, trivia, comedy and antique cars. He appreciated all types of music, especially the works of Patsy Cline, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles. Brian had a passion for the outdoors which he shared during hikes and camping trips with his children and the loyal dogs he had throughout his lifetime. Brian cherished his time with his family and friends at Lake Ariel, PA. Brian is survived by his four children: Kate, Patrick, William and Joseph and his long time partner, Karin Mylott and her children Kaitie and Linnea, all of Vermont. Also surviving are four siblings: Anne Dempsey Costello and husband Robert, of Dunmore, PA, Ellen Dempsey, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Thomas and wife Vickie, of Chittenango, NY and William and wife Nancy, of East Amherst, NY, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Brian was a beloved father, son, brother, cousin and friend to many and was much loved by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed and remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, story-telling and raucous laugh. Visiting hours in Vermont will be held on Tuesday March 27, 2012 from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Ducharme funeral Home Inc. Located at 1939 Main Street Castleton. The Rev. Henry Furman will hold a prayer service at 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial mass will be held on March 31, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at The Parish Community of Immaculate Conception 801 Taylor Ave Scranton, PA 18501. Burial will be in St. Catherines Cemetery in Moscow, PA will follow.
