Charles C. Bergen, 91, died peacefully at home in Bomoseen, VT on May 6, 2015. Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne, and by his children Pat (Ray), Mary (the late Dave), Jim (Vikki), Charlie (Jerolyn), Mike, Bill (Allison), Rick (Marcie), Tim (Heather), Tom, Joe (Betsy), 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Charlie was predeceased by his son Matt and grandson Mark. Charlie was born in the Bronx on August 23, 1923 to James and Mary Bergen, their only child. After serving in the Eighth Air Force as a navigator and bombardier flying 24 missions in B-17s during the Second World War, Charlie returned to the family business, Bergen Greenhouses,on Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. Charlie grew the business into the Nosegay Flower Shops, with 12 locations in New York City and its suburbs, including the Village of Katonah, where Charlie and Anne largely raised their family and attended St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. In retirement, Charlie and Anne lived in Somers, NY before moving to Rutland, VT and then Bomoseen, VT. Charlie was known for his wry sense of humor and love of family, dogs and gardening. Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton. A military honors ceremony will be conducted at 10:45 a.m. on Monday May 11th at St. John The Baptist Church in Castleton, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
