Castleton Claire Fern Burditt Claire Fern Burditt 89, passed away Saturday December 31, 2022 at Our House Outback in Rutland after several years of declining health. She was born at home October 14, 1933 in Lynnfield Center, MA the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Urquhart) Preston. On August 10, 1952 she and John B. Burditt were married. He predeceased her in 2017 after 64 years of marriage. She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Gary), Diane, by her three sons, Wayne, Edward (Mary) and Eric (Vickie) by her six grandchildren and her 4 great-grandchildren. Claire graduated from Wakefield, MA High School class of 1951 and Burdett College Secretarial program and was later employed at the Boston Office of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company. Claire enjoyed quilting with a group called Zeruahs Daughters, knitting, crocheting and history, especially with the Castleton Historical Society at the Higley House where she was a member and volunteered many hours much of that time in the unheated portion of the building. She along with her late friend Sylvia Sullivan also spent many hours locating and documenting the Castleton Cemeteries along with the upkeep and repairs. Claire was predeceased by her parents, her husband and five siblings. Private graveside services will be held at a later date in Hillside Cemetery. Per her wishes she asked donations to be made to Castleton First Responders at 263 Route 30 North Bomoseen, VT 05732. Or to the Castleton Historical Society at 556 Main Street Castleton, VT 05735.
