Daniel Clayton Calvin, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on November 8, 1934, in Hubbardton, Vermont, Dan was the son of Clayton Calvin and Anna Mae (Cotter). He was a proud lifelong resident of his family's homestead in Hubbardton and a steady, friendly presence in his community.
Dan dedicated himself to service through the Hubbardton Historical Society, St. John's Catholic Church, and American Legion Post #50. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. He worked at General Electric in Rutland for 32 years and was a member of the Otter Ski Patrol at Pico.
Dan was an avid sports enthusiast who loved participating in, watching, and listening to games on the radio. He coached several teams over the years and was passionate about baseball, softball, golf, tennis, volleyball, and downhill skiing. He also enjoyed a good game of cards, bingo, cribbage, or ping pong.
Dan was predeceased by his brother, John Calvin, and his son, Brian. He leaves behind his wife, Grace (Dennehey) Calvin; his children, Julie Marcy and her husband, Dean, and Adam Calvin and his wife, Tobi; and his grandchildren, Lindsey Gabr, Molly Marcy, Sarah Calvin, and Luke Calvin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Catholic Church in Castleton. A reception will follow at American Legion Post #50.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Castleton American Legion Post 50 at 378 Route 4 A Castleton, VT 05735, or to the Castleton Community Seniors at 2108 Main Street, Castleton, VT 05735.
