Obituary

Deana Lee Hayes-Deyette

Deana Deyette passed away peacefully on the morning of September 10th, 2024.

She was born on August 15th, 1938 to Gardner Evans Hayes and Ruth Lillian (Dumas) Hayes, in Warren, Vermont. She attended school in East Braintree, Vermont and then went to Randolph High School.

Deana worked at Camp Teela-Wooket in Roxbury, Vermont during the summer and she must have loved it because she always talked about the horses she worked with and the kids she met there. After high school she went to work at Van Raalts sewing in Randolph, Vermont.

Not long after, she met the love of her life, Ardin Deyette and they were married in Braintree, Vermont on October 10th, 1957 where they lived for a while before moving to East Granville, Vermont. They had three children before moving to Mendon, Vermont and then finally settling in Chittenden, Vermont where they

eventually built their own home in which she remained until her death.

Deana had many jobs over the years, she sold Avon door to door when she first moved to the Chittenden area. She worked at Mountain Top Inn in Chittenden, and even mowed lawns and cleaned campsites at Gifford State Park (a job she loved because it was outdoors). But the job she seemed to enjoy the most was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Her smile was never bigger than when she was taking care of someone else.

Mom had a green thumb. She had plants growing inside and out and would often have a vegetable garden including purple string beans and other favorites of the grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing and many of us who knew her still enjoy the many things she made us, especially the nearly waterproof knitted mittens.

She was an avid reader, but she was picky – she liked her true stories, biographies, history and travel and would pass the books on to whoever she thought would enjoy them. She loved old country music, she especially loved listening to her husband and his family and friends play music but Loretta Lynn came in second.

What she loved most was family, and was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren enjoying an outdoor BBQ.

Deana was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Ardin in 2014, and a brother Victor Dumas, along with his wife Ann.

She is survived by a sister Rea Haraden of Randolph, Vermont, sister Roberta Merchant and Partner Robert of Alburg, Vermont. A son Leslie Deyette and wife Linda of Belmont, Vermont, a daughter Lisa Goodrich and husband Joe of Middletown Springs, Vermont and a daughter Carissa Johnston and husband Michael of West Rutland, Vermont. Eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Deana was also a talented artist, mostly oil painting. Some of her paintings will be on display at her service on October 6th, 2024 at 11am at Mendon Fish & Game Club where will be sending her off with a final family BBQ after the service.

Burial will be Monday, October 7th at 1pm at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Vermont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Save a Tiny Adoptables c/o Sheena Trahan 4818 Old Lorena Road, Lorena TX 76655. (Where she adopted her precious Peanut from).
