Benson, VT Donald H. Anderson
Donald Harvey Anderson, 71, died Tuesday October 14, 2008 at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1937 in Waterbury, CT the son of the late Harold & Charlotte (VanNatter) Anderson.
Don was a graduate of Woodbury High School, Woodbury, CT
He enlisted in the United Sates Marine Corp. and served as a helicopter crew chief in Japan and ended active duty after Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
He was employed prior to his enlistment by the State of Connecticut as a herdsman at Fairfield Hills. After his return from military service Don worked at Sikorsky Helicopter plant. Moving to Vermont he work on the Munger Farm in Benson and then he worked for Vermont agency of Transportation on the bridge crew and then the Highway Maintenance Crew District # 4 retiring due to health issues. Don continued to work part time as a driver for Smith Buick, GMC in Rutland.
Don was a 25 year Member of the Masons currently with Mt Independence Lodge # 10 F & A.M. of Orwell, a past member of the Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Dept. and Benson Volunteer Fire Dept.
He was an avid boater and love the outdoors and birds, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his loving wife and family.
Survivors are his wife Marcia (Parsons) Anderson, of Benson, Cynthia Cassidy & husband Mark, of Blissville, Susan Brown & husband Norm, of Benson and Kristen Anderson, of Jacksonville, Fl, by his five grandchildren, Aaron & Andrew Cassidy, of Blissville, Jacob Brown & wife Kate, of Benson Hannah and Daric Brown, of Benson, by his step-son, Dean Acquaviva & wife Danielle, of Plantsville, CT, by his sister, Marjorie Angellilo, of Watertown, CT. Also by several nieces and a nephew and numerous friends.
He was predeceased by his father Harold on December 18, 1973 and his mother Charlotte on July 4, 2006.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday October 17, 2008 from 4-6 PM at the Ducharme Funeral Home located at 1939 Main Street Castleton, VT.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 18, 2008 at 2 PM at the United Church of Benson. The Rev. Holly Noble will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Benson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation at MCHF, 3800 settler park Dr. Suite 104 Dumfries, VA 22025, or to the United Church of Benson at in care of Richard Bowen at P.O. Box 186, Benson, VT 05731
