Obituary

Donald Frederic Kemnitzer, 87, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015, at his residence in Bomoseen, VT. Don was born March 16, 1928 in Rockville, CT, the son of Frederic and Esther (Usher) Kemnitzer. He graduated from Rockville High School in 1945 and immediately joined the army advancing to a Sergeant T3 NCO, where he served in active duty in WWII, headquartered in Trieste, Italy until 1947. He served as an army reservist thereafter. After his service, Don attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, pursuing a pre-dental curriculum followed by enrollment at Tufts Dental School in Boston, MA. He graduated from Tufts in 1953, and then continued on to teach pre-clinical classes at Tufts while he finished a 2-year certification in prosthodontics. He practiced dentistry initially in Medford and Malden, MA and Somers, CT until 1973. He then practiced for Vermont Dental Care at the Vermont Achievement Center and the Service Building in Rutland, VT from 1973 until his retirement in 1993. Don restarted the SAFE Snowmobile Club in the late 1980s and served as Treasurer for several years. He was a member of the Castleton, VT Post # 50 American Legion. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Joyce Hills and a daughter, Karen (Kemnitzer) Bills. Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years, Roberta (Patzsch) Kemnitzer of Bomoseen, VT; five children: Karl Kemnitzer of Windsor, VT; Kerry (Kemnitzer) Yoshikawa and husband Richard of Sharon, VT; Darcy Kemnitzer of Lyndon Center, VT; Randee Kemnitzer Lunn and husband Jeffrey of Medfield, MA; Tad Kemnitzer and partner Donna Trombley and children Kyle and Kayla Trombley of Fair Haven and Proctor VT; six grandchildren: Logan Hackett, Casey Hackett Zapletal, Cooper Bills, Corey Bills, Thomas Lunn, Cameron Lunn; three great-grandchildren; three cousins: Gene Goehring of Rockville, CT; Diann Osgood of Largo, FL and Noma Deming of Avon, CT and several nieces and nephews. Don will be dearly missed. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Rob Noble of the Castleton Federated Church and burial with full military honors will be held in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph, VT on Thursday June 4, 2015 at 1 P.M. in the Chapel. Per Dons request, there will be no public calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Ducharme Funeral Home Inc. in Castleton, VT.
