Mrs. Dorothy E. Ducharme
Dorothy E. Ducharme, 89, died Friday evening January 13, 2006 at her home after a short illness.
She was born September 22, 1916 in Newport, VT the eldest of three daughters to the late Henry & Lucinda (Kinney) Noe. She attended schools in Newport and Eden Vermont and also Colebrook, NH and graduated from Orleans High School in 1935.
Dorothy was a secretary for many years starting at the Dickens - Kipp Insurance agency and also at the Orleans school. Then after her marriage to her husband Cecil on June 26, 1939 in Newfane VT the couple move to Providence Rhode Island and she continued as a secretary for the London - Guarntie Accident Insurance Company. They then moved to Brattleboro where she worked for the Holstein Fresian Co. they later moved to Springfield, VT where she raised her family and then in 1952 they moved to Castleton on the East Hubbardton Rd where they began farming, Dorothy was active at that time with the Home Den Club on the East Hubbardton road and was also active with hot lunch program at the North Brittan School.
In 1958 Dorothy and her husband Cecil then started the Player Piano Service at the farm and in 1966 they purchased the D & H railroad station in Castleton and moved the business to that location, and for the next 31 years they ran the business together and retired turning the business over to their son Donald.
Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she enjoyed spending time with her family. In her younger years she enjoyed going to yard sales, traveling back to Orleans to see her sisters, baking and was well known for her cakes that she gave to her neighbors and friends up and down the East Hubbardton road. She also enjoyed growing flowers especially tulips and yellow roses, she also enjoyed playing bingo, jigsaw puzzles, and after her retirement she volunteered her time at the Town Offices of Castleton.
She is survived by her son, Donald P. Ducharme Sr. & his wife Valerie, who were her caregivers, ensuring that Dorothys wishes were carried out. Her daughter MaryAnn Jakubowski & her husband Valentine, her five grandsons, Donald Jr., Danny and Walter Ducharme, Michael and William Jakubowski, her five great-grandson, and her one great-granddaughter. Also by her sister Marjorie Burdick, of Orleans and several nephews and cousins.
She was pre deceased by her Husband Mr. Cecil Ducharme who died in February 19, 1989, also by her sister Stella Coathup who died December 6, 2003, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday January 17, 2006 at 11 AM at the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton. The Rev. Ashley Meade Pastor of the Dresden Baptist church, and Thomas Sawyer President of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints Rutland branch, will Officiate.
There will be no visiting hours per Dorothys request.
Burial will be at a later date in the spring in Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Memory of Dorothy may be given to a charity of ones choice or to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse & Hospice.
