Dr. Ronald William Brostek, M.D. of Hubbardton died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 12, 2014 at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. Ron was 81 years old.
Ron was born in Albany, NY, April 4, 1933, the only child of William Brostek and Margaret (Radecky)Brostek, and was raised in Flushing, NY.
He graduated from Columbia Universityand served his country as a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. While attending medical school at Columbia, Ron met Marilyn, his wife of 53 years. They settled on Long Island to raise their four children. Ron worked for 35 years in the field of internal medicine. Upon hisretirement in 1991, Ron and Marilyn moved permanently to live lakeside in Vermont. In his spare time, Ron was an amateur ham radio enthusiast and enjoyed electronics, hunting and fishing. A man of great faith, Ron was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He loved his family very much.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Timmer) Brostek, a daughter Valerie (Gary) Jacobs of Pleasantville, NY, a son William (Eileen) Brostek of Lindenhurst, NY, a son Keith (Rebekah) Brostek of Hubbardton, VT and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his aunt Wanda Brostek and a son, Collin Brostek.
There will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Castleton, with the Rev. Dennis Kingsley Nwagwu as the celebrant. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foley Cancer Center,160 Allen Street, Rutland, VT 05701. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc.
