Obituary

Duncan G. Hannah 1945 - 2015 Bomoseen - Duncan G. Hannah, 69, a fifty year Vermont resident, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 24th at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Montreal, Canada on October 26, 1945, a son of the late Gerald P. and Edith (Webb) Hannah. He was a graduate of Rutland High School, and the University of Vermont where he received a Bachelors Degree in Economics and was employed as a field technician for CVPS for many years before retirement. A professional wood carver for over twenty five years, he was the owner of Woodcarvings by Hannah and was assisted by his wife Marilyn, who did the painting. He was commissioned by the Smithsonian to demonstrate woodcarving at the U.S. Pavilion at Man and His World in Montreal, and several articles in national magazines such as Travel, Yankee and Miniature Collector, as well as two published books, A Yankee Way With Wood and Crafts of America featured his carving talents. He and Marilyn wintered for many years in Bradenton, Florida and North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he loved playing golf and got his first hole in one this past winter. He served as president of the Thursday night mixed couples league and the Monday night mens league at the Skene Valley Golf Course in Whitehall. He also enjoyed gardening, genealogy, the Red Sox, the Patriots and spending time with his family. He is survived by his best friend and wife of forty five years, Marilyn (Hamilton) Hannah, his son, Ryan and his wife Susan of Manchester, NH, his daughter, Kristie Healey and her husband Timothy of Colchester. He also leaves his brother, Peter of New Harbor, Maine, and two sisters, Norma Ruby of Fair Haven, and Judith Shaw of Tampa, FL. He will be sadly missed by his beloved grandson Lincoln Healey, many nieces and nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association, 110 Main St., Burlington, VT 05401. Visiting hours are Saturday, August 29 from 10am to 12 noon at the Ducharme Funeral Home, 1939 Main St., Castleton, VT. A funeral home service will be held at noon.
