John W. Andrushko 63, died Wednesday evening June 24, 2020 at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with Cancer.
He was born January 24, 1957 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the son of William and Barbara (Balchin) Andrushko.
John always dreamed of coming to America. He and his brother Andrew came over from England and he never looked back.
He and his brother started a slate quarry business in Fair Haven Vermont and were known all over the USA as the Texans. They mined and manufactured slate products for many projects all over the world.
John's last project being a stunning roof, on a magnificent house in Whitefish, Montana. He was looking forward to Phase 2 of that project when he fell ill.
John had an infectious smile and Wonderful sense of humor and never had a bad word to say about anyone. People were drawn to him and knew him as Big John.
He was always on the go and never stopped working. He and his wife moved to Key Largo where he fell in love with the waters of the keys and started his artist career. He has many friends in the Keys and most of them have a piece of his artwork.
He always gave the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it.
John enjoyed artistry, painting, golf, hard work, traveling to the Florida Keys and elsewhere, Slate quarrying and making wooden American flags.
He married Jeannette Williamson February 17, 1998 in Key West, Florida.
He loved his daughter and all of his nieces and nephews.
Survivors are his wife Jeannette Andrushko, of Bomoseen, his daughter DArcy Andrushko, of Clifton Park, NY and his siblings, Andrew Andrushko, Sue Andrushko and Kathy Morrin. Also by many nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and friends and by his best Buddy Benji.
He was predeceased by his mother Barbara and nephew Grayson.
A celebration of his life was held on Monday June 29, 2020 at the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc., located at 1939 Main Street, Castleton, Vt . With the Rev. Robert Noble officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Foley Cancer Center at 160 Allen Street, Rutland, Vt 05701.
His will always be remembered for the good that he did while here on earth.
The gentle giant will be missed by all.
