John Garfield Potter 62, died Friday May 13, 2011 at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born December 16, 1948 in Springfield the son of the late James Garfield & Cassie (Flanders) Potter. John grew up the Belmont, Mount Holly area attended local schools and graduated from Black River High School in Ludlow.
He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during Vietnam serving on the U.S.S. Bennington stationed in Japan.
John was employed by Regional Ambulance Service in Rutland as an Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate and was a previous given Star of Life award. He also had work many years for Dan Turco and Sons in North Clarendon.
John was a former member and one of the founders of the Mount Holly Volunteer Rescue Squad and a former member of the Wallingford Rescue Squad.
John enjoyed staying active, scuba diving, snowmobiling, Motorcycle riding, Flower gardening, taking pictures and always interested in new computer and electronic devices, he enjoyed keeping his lawns meticulous.
John is survived by his Significant Other, Diane Fietti, of Wallingford, by his siblings, Charles Potter and his wife Lois, of Fort Ann, NY , Jane Hill, of Belmont and Stanley Potter and wife Sue, of Rutland and, By his special Niece Diane Dolly, Watts, of Carlisle, Pa, also by several nieces, nephews and numerous co-workers and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents
There will be no Visitation Hours.
A celebration of Johns life will be held on Friday May 20, 2011 at 3 P.M. at the Ducharme Funeral Home. Located at 1939 Main Street Castleton.
