Kenneth Robert .E. Grant, 70, a retired Merchant Marine, died March 19, 2007, at home.
He was born October 14, 1936 in Quincy, Mass.
Son of the late Robert B. & Kathleen M. (Eldridge) Grant.
He moved to Vermont in 1979.
Ken Graduated from Quincy H.S. in Massachusetts, and Mass Maritime Academy of Buzzard Bay, Mass. in 1957.as a Marine Engineer, traveling to South America, the Mediterranean, and Europe as part of his education. Served (3) three years on oil tankers, then worked for Bethlehem Steel shipyard as actuator, then returned to sea in 1962 on passenger ships as a officer, then to roll on /roll off freighters in the import / export business retiring in 1986.
A 32-degree Master Mason since 1977, a former member of Purtain Lodge AF. And AM. Of Whitman, Mass. and a present member of Independence Lodge #10 F & AM of Orwell, Vt.
A 26 yr. member of the Order of Eastern Star, Grand Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of OES of Vermont and past /present Worthy Patron of Marble Chapter #80; Warder of Fairhaven Chapter #10
Lifetime member of the international order of Demolay.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years Hazel D. (Pedersen) Grant, his daughters, Debra L. Bushee of Fair Haven, VT, Danette F. Grant of Bridport, Vt., Meridith L. Supernault and husband George of Orwell, Vt., Pamela A. Bishop and husband Jeff of Bridport, Vt, His son, Robert B. Grant and wife Nancy of Nashville Tenn., grandchildren Nicole Stella of Granville, NY, Sharai Bushee, Matthew , Marissa , and Kathleen Supernault, David , Daniel , and Alex Bishop, and great grandson Christopher Supernault of Castleton , Vt, niece Kathleen R. Kerr and husband James and son Tyler James of Braintree , Mass.
He was predeceased by a sister Kathryn Hughes of Wollaston, Mass.
He enjoyed many hobbies including boating, calligraphy, model trains, singing as a member of the Orwell Congregational Church Choir, and traveling with Eastern Star.
Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday March 22 from 5 PM to 8 PM At the Funeral home located at 1939 main street Castleton.
Funeral Services will be on Friday March 23, 2007 at 11 AM at the Ducharme Funeral Home in Castleton, Mary Jane Eaton Lay Minister will officiate.
Burial will be at a later date in Mt. View Cemetery in Orwell.
A reception will follow the service at the Fair haven Masonic Temple north main street Fair Haven.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Thorpe in care of the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc. at P.O. Box 474 Castleton, VT 05735
