Larry Gene Bond 84, passed away July 28, 2026 with family at his side after a long battle with chronic illness.
He was born on June 16, 1942 in Newport News, VA the son of James Monroe Bond and Agnes (Thomas) Bond.
Larry was a lifelong member of UA Local 777 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was a welding engineer, pipefitter, foreman, senior construction engineer, welding inspector and instructor. He taught welding in colleges and out of his home until recently. He worked at multiple nuclear power plants in Connecticut, New Jersey, Virginia, and Michigan. He was a foreman on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and helped to build Foxwoods Resort in Ledyard, CT.
Larry was employed by multiple corporations including Bechtel Power Corporation, Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Corp, Virginia Aerospace Products Corp, and Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company.
He was well loved by those he supervised and worked with.
Survivors include his best friend and companion Catherine Toda of Bomoseen, VT, two daughters Catherine Bond Schneider (James) of Shrewsbury, VT, and Jennifer Bond Baker (Brian) of Boca Raton, FL, and his twin sister Lois Bond Swaim of Hampton, VA. He was also the grandfather “grandaddy” of two dear grandchildren.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Carol Histand Bond, parents James and Agnes, brother Thomas L. Bond, and brother James Bond, Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNAHSR Hospice, Rutland County Humane Society, or the Castleton First Responders.
