Castleton, VT Leonard W. Ross
Leonard W. Ross, 61, died Friday morning January 6, 2012 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
He was born May 23, 1950 in Rutland, the son of the late William and Mary (Lyman) Ross.
Leonard attended Castleton and Fair Haven Schools. He lived most his life on Route 30, except for two years when he lived with his Aunt Josie and Uncle Albert Lyman in Granville. The last 40 years he lived on the last acre of what was a 60 acre Ross family farm dating back to the Civil War Era.
Len came from a very musical family, his mom played the spoons, his dad a Squeeze box , grandfather a fiddle, aunts and uncles guitars and piano. They put Len chording on the piano at about age 9. Grandpa would whack him on the head and say change. He learned quickly, it was their entertainment. In his prime time he had a dance band and later a country gospel band.
He worked 25 years at Telescope Furniture in Granville, NY, leaving due to failing health with Multiple Sclerosis in 1994.
Len was also a talented cabinet maker and also enjoyed helping people. He never could say no. He loved pets especially his Sophie.
He was blessed with a loving family which survive him, wife Jeanette ( Quillia) Ross, daughter, Heather Ibey and her husband Andy, of East Montpelier, by his grandsons, William and Nicholas Ibey, by his step children, Shelley Hathaway of Castleton, Michael Holden of Castleton and Kelly Holden of Rutland , by his sisters, Carlene Hutchins and her husband Edward, and June Camara all of Lititz, PA; by his almost brother John Woodbury and his wife Cindy of Castleton , by his aunt Josie Lyman of Granville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by his first wife, Carol Ross of Castleton.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday January 8, 2012 at 2 P.M.. Family and friends may call from 1 P.M. until the time of the service at 2 P.M. at the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc. located at 1939 Main Street, Castleton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis at National MS Society, PO Box 4527,New York, NY 10163 or to the American Heart Association PO Box 3049 Syracuse, NY 13220-3049
