IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn Aleita
Brostek
January 4, 1935 – June 14, 2024
Marilyn Aleita Brostek of Hubbardton died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 14, 2024 at The Meadows in Rutland, VT after a period of declining health. She was 89 years old.
Marilyn was born January 4, 1935 in Middletown, NY to Naomi (Forsythe) and George Timmer. Marilyn often told nostalgic stories about the blessings of being raised in a small town and of endless summers spent at Camp Townsend in the Catskills where her mother was the camp nurse. After graduating high school, Marilyn left her hometown to attend nursing school alongside her sister Joan at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. It was there that she met her future husband, Dr. Ronald W. Brostek. They eventually settled in Massapequa, NY where they lived for 30 years and raised their family.
As her children grew, Marilyn returned to her career as a nurse working at C.W. Post College, Hofstra University, local public schools and later worked as a home health care nurse. Upon their retirement, Marilyn and Ron moved permanently to live by the lake in Vermont where they appreciated a slower pace of life yet still looked forward to going out to dinner and a show. They enjoyed adventures in Florida, Hawaii and Italy and trips closer to home to dote on their grandchildren and cheer for them on sports fields and on stage. Marilyn shined while hosting friends and family for cocktails and appetizers on their deck and couldn't resist debuting new casserole recipes at family gatherings. She would say that her frugal upbringing inspired her fondness for thrift stores and could never pass up a good yard sale in case there were treasures to be found. Marilyn loved animals and was devoted to the many family dogs. She nursed them to health, sneaked them snacks and brought them everywhere with her. But above all else, Marilyn's family was her greatest joy and proudest achievement. She showered them with hugs and lipstick kisses and spoiled everyone if given the chance. They will dearly miss being greeted at her door with a friendly "hello, hello, hello" and hearing her bid farewell with a cheerful "love ya, love ya, love ya."
Marilyn is survived by her beloved children; daughter Valerie (Gary) Jacobs of Pleasantville, NY; son William (Eileen) Brostek of Islip, NY; son Keith (Rebekah) Brostek of Hubbardton, VT; six grandchildren (Brittany [Justin], Kelsie [Mathew], Madison, Melissa, Anya and Samuel), three great-grand children (Charlotte, Theodore and Vivienne), sister Joan Rotolo, niece Susan (Carmelo) Rotolo and great-nephew Thomas. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Ronald W. Brostek, son Collin Brostek and brother-in-law Thomas 'Babe' Rotolo.
There will be no visiting hours. A Celebration of Life and a private burial will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff of The Meadows at East Mountain for their kindness and grace while caring for Marilyn in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Rutland County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc.
