Fair Haven Norma Ruth Ferguson Norma Ruth (Ackley) Ferguson of Fair Haven, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 26, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 84. Norma was born December 2, 1935, in Newbury, Vermont, daughter of Clyde R. and Guila A. (St. John) Ackley. She grew up in Clarendon and attended local schools, graduating from Rutland High School in 1955. In her youth, she sang at nursing homes, community events, and on radio with her family, The Singing Ackleys. She worked at Killington Bank in Rutland, which is where she met her future husband, John, before he joined the Marine Corps. She embraced her role as a military wife and throughout John's career she helped raise six children and kept the family operating smoothly through several relocations and deployments. She also worked for the USPS, the Rutland Herald, and as a Rutland County sheriff deputy. Upon retirement, she and John traveled the United States and Canada in their RV before eventually coming home to Vermont. Norma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing piano, baking, and genealogy, and above all, she loved and was very proud of her family. Norma is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, John E. Ferguson, Sr., and her children, Mark Ferguson and his wife, Pam, of Merrimack, NH, Kerry Atkins and her husband, Bill, of Enfield, CT, Craig Ferguson and his wife, Shannon, of Williamsburg, VA, Todd Ferguson and his wife, Mary, of Fair Haven, VT, Rick Ferguson and his wife, Kelly Jo, of Trussville, AL, and her daughter-in-law Laurie Ferguson of New Hartford, CT. Norma has 12 grandchildren Austin Ferguson of McGuire Air Force Base, NJ, Brooke Ferguson of Windsor, CT, Dana Ferguson and his wife, Nikki, of Merrimack, NH, Nicholas Boulette, and his wife, Kristin, of Valrico, FL, Allisa Boulette of Enfield, CT, Melody Fernaays and her husband, Sean, of Willingham, England, Hunter Ferguson of Clayton, NC, Todd Ferguson, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, of Fair Haven, Joshua Ferguson of Fair Haven, Chelsea Ferguson of Fair Haven, Kyle Ferguson of Trusville, AL, and Brittany Ferguson of Trussville, AL, and 6 great-grandchildren, Payton, Alecea, Nellie, Isabel, Lily, and Brielle, and many special nieces and nephews. Norma was predeceased by her son, John Ferguson, Jr., and her siblings Myron Ackley, Audrey Graves Arnado, C. Russell Ackley Jr., and Carlene Davis. A Celebration of Norma's life will be held at a later date and time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Norma's name to Foley Cancer Center/Rutland Regional Medical Center or Bayada Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Foley Cancer Center and Bayada Hospice for their care and support of Mom. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc.
