Castleton – Peggy J. VanLew

Peggy J. VanLew 73, died Monday January 15, 2024 at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born July 18, 1950 in Rutland the daughter of Clarence R. Barlow Jr. and Iva (Durkee) Hewitt.

Peggy was a graduate of Fair Haven Union High School class of 1968 she furthered her education at Castleton State College receiving her Bachelor's of Science degree.

She enjoyed gardening and crocheting in her spare time. She was a charter member and past Madam President of the Fair Haven Eagles Club #3907. She spent many years with the Eagles club raising money for the Foley Cancer Center.

She Married William VanLew on May 24,1986 in Castleton.

Peggy had worked for several different entities over the years as well as General Electric Aerospace in Rutland.

She is survived by her children, Lori DeLance (Zack), of Castleton, Franklyn Heibler Jr. (Bonnie), of Benson, Jason VanLew, of North Carolina and Charles VanLew(Roseanne), of Fair Haven. By her siblings, Doreen Bushey (Roger), of Castleton, Sally Adams (Tony), of North Carolina, Judy Starliper (Bob), of South Carolina, Wesley Barlow (Leone), of Granville, NY, and Rodney Hewitt, of South Carolina. By her eight grandchildren and her one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband William and her siblings, Frederick Barlow, Janice Higgins and Clarence "Fudd" R. Barlow III.

A Celebration of her life will be held Saturday January 20, 2024 at 2 P.M. at the Telescope Casual Furniture showroom at 82 Church Street, Granville, NY.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society at 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.
