Obituary

BOMOSEEN- Raymond T. Knepper, 85, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Rutland Regional Medical Center, Rutland, VT. Born in Newark, NJ, September 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Violet (Field) Knepper. He lived most of his young life in Kearney, NJ. While a senior at Kearney High School, Ray joined and honorably served in the United States Army Air Force in WW II. Following WW II, he attended the University of Buffalo. He worked as a photographer for Lorstan Studios where he met his wife of 62 years, Rose Grassi. Following their marriage on October 16, 1949, they moved to Wayne, NJ where they raised their family. He worked for Harry Page as a repairman of scales and slicers and was an exceptional salesman for Toledo Scales/Reliance Electric for 26 years. In addition, his working years included employment with Century 21 and a driver for Shearer Honda of Rutland. While in New Jersey he was a member of Holy Name Society at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Wayne, NJ. He coached the Police Athletic Association baseball and remained involved in his sons baseball activities through high school. In 1990 he and Rose retired to Vermont where they have enjoyed life on Lake Bomoseen. It was in his retirement years he coached Little League baseball on his grandsons teams in Castleton. During his years in Castleton, he was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Family members include his wife, Rose (Grassi) Knepper of Bomoseen; two sons, Thomas R. Knepper and his wife Shelley of Jamul, CA and Mark A. Knepper and his wife Mary Meier of Castleton; two daughters, Kim J. Miller and her husband Kurt F. Miller of Castleton and Carla R. Carter of Mt. Pocono, PA; seven grandchildren, Justin K. Miller, Matthew R. Miller, Jami N. Miller, Thomas R. Knepper, II, Rebecca M.Chuisano, Dylan T. Carter and Alexandra R. Carter; one great grandchild, Easton J. Miller. Ray was predeceased by son-in-law, Robert R. Carter and one great grandchild, Danika B. Miller. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Main St., Castleton with the Rev Henry P. Furman as celebrant. Memorial donations may be made to Castleton Recreation Department, (Little League Baseball) 556 Main St., Castleton, VT 05735.
