Obituary

Robert J. Brothers, 84, of South Padre Island, TX formerly of Clifton Park, NY and Bomoseen, VT entered into eternal life peacefully Wednesday August 13th, 2014 at his lake house in Bomoseen, VT surrounded by family He was born on April 11, 1930 in Rutland, Vermont, the son of the late Harold and Irene (Fitzgerald) Brothers. He was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph High School. He graduated from Northeastern University with a BS degree in Accounting. Robert worked as the assistant executive director and administrative director of the New York State Teachers Retirement System retiring in 1992 after 21 years of services as a key member in helping the NYSTRS develop a superior data processing operation resulting in improved and timelier services. Robert married Sally M. McCarthy, the love of his life, on February 7, 1957 and they were happily married for over fifty years. Robert was a hard worker throughout his life with his greatest achievement being his family. He loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren at his summer lake house in Bomoseen, VT. He spent the winters in South Padre Island, TX, where he enjoyed socializing with his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed working on his houses, traveling, fishing and playing golf. He was a member of the Rutland Country Club and the South Padre Country Club. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sally Brothers, his sister Pamela Brothers Jakeway and his grandson Matthew. Survivors include his children Michael (Ann) Brothers, Timothy (Laura) Brothers, Andrew Brothers, Mary Ann (Robert) Ida and Susan (Ken) Banker; his grandchildren Joseph, Katherine, Ryan, Mackenzie and Sophia; his brother Charles E. Brothers of Rutland, VT; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday August 22 at 11 AM at the Ducharme Funeral Home Inc., 1939 Main Street Castleton, VT. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 10 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Rutland,Vermont. Special thanks to Janice Bruno for her compassionate care of Robert in his final days. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
