Bud spent much of his youth in Killington where his parents owned and operated Alpenhof Ski Lodge and where he developed into an outstanding downhill skier and competitive racer. He was a graduate of Woodstock Union High School and the Culinary Institute of America at Yale University. His talent as a chef was known to many in the area. Bud was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his family and friends and was always willing to help someone in need. In 1980 he received a letter of commendation from President Carter for his bravery in rescuing two individuals from a burning mobile home. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 50 and The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Bud was a seasoned outdoorsman who spent most of his life in the woods or on the lake. His skill with his hands was well known in the area and was evident in his many talents. During his lifetime he worked as a logger, sawyer, carpenter, welder, and excavator. He used these talents to build a custom log home for his wife, Margaret, himself, and his two stepchildren. In his free time he was a very successful hunter, trapper, and fisherman. He also enjoyed woodworking in his shop and listening to country music. Bud is survived by his wife, Margaret H. Hubbard of Hubbardton; his mother, Marie V. Hubbard of Port St. Lucie, FL; three brothers, Richard G. Hubbard and Frederick W. Hubbard, both of Hubbardton, and Gary P. Hubbard of Killington; three sisters, Diane M. Bruce of Castleton; three grandchildren, Taylor Holmes of Boys Town, NE, and Jefferey and Kristian Bruce of Castleton; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Hubbard Sr., and his nephew, Seth R. Hubbard. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 28th at 2 pm at the Fellowship Bible Church in Castleton.
