Obituary

Robert T. McGrath born in Syracuse, New York, recently passed away (October 9, 2017), in Vermont where he lived and worked for many years. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Norma (Ziegler) McGrath and recently, his wife Gail. He was a graduate of Nottingham High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Syracuse University. He was an active member of PHI Gamma Delta Fraternity along with his brothers William and James. He enjoyed tennis and helped Nottingham High school win many city tennis championships. He and his partner William played doubles in many city and state tournaments held in Syracuse. He was a member of the Sedwick Farms Tennis Club until he transferred from Syracuse. Prior to locating to Vermont, Bob enjoyed positions with Longley -Jones, Realtor, Oberdorfer Foundries, Sales, New Process Gear, Manufacturing, Sullivan Associates, Manufacturers Representative, McGrath and Son Builders, as a partner with his father. He developed and built properties in every state east of the Mississippi and in some portions of Canada. Bob found his way to Vermont and managed and developed Smugglers Notch Ski Resort into what it is today. He was instrumental in bringing the time share program for condominiums to the State of Vermont. He also managed and developed properties at numerous ski areas in Vermont, including Killington where the business is still active. In 1981 he met the love of his life, Gail (Ready). They spent the remainder of their years together enjoying each others company. Gail passed in 2015. Bob leaves behind siblings Harold of Cazenovia, William (Catharine) of Fayetteville, James (Sharon) of Florida and sister Joyce Perrin of Fayetteville, as well as nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his children and their families: Brent Turner, of Rutland, Lynn McGrath and her daughter Ella of West Rutland, and Jacob McGrath and his wife, Bonnie (Badgewick), and their children Colin and Sophia, of Woodstock. Bob was a great man. If you were lucky enough to know him, professionally or personally, he was the type of man that changed peoples lives for the better. He never put himself first. He will be missed dearly by many. A family graveside burial was performed at the New Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington on October 21, 2017.
