Suzanne V. Doran, 68, of Fair Haven passed away peacefully, surrounded by family after her courageous battle with Cancer on Thursday, August 31, 2017.
She was born on December 7, 1948 in California to James and Helen Newlin. Suzanne grew up in California before moving to New Jersey with her stepmother Elsie Newlin. Suzanne eventually attended Green Mountain All Girls Junior College where she met and later married her husband James Doran. Together for 47 years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling and checking out local snack bars to find their favorite burger and fries.
Suzanne loved her family and was committed to her children, grandchildren, marriage and family. Suzanne loved to travel and traveled the world as a teenager. Suzanne loved to shop and spent many hours over the years shopping and attending basket parties with her daughter and best friend Heather. Suzanne loved to work in her gardens and they were her pride and joy and quite a view for all the neighbors to enjoy. Suzanne also enjoyed reading and coloring during her quiet times. She also was an active member at the Castleton Senior Center for many years where she led exercise classes. She was a talented baker and had her own cake decorating business for over 25 years. She attended Wilton cake decorating school in Chicago and also taught cake decorating classes in Rutland, VT for many years.
Suzanne is survived by her husband James and two daughters, Tammy Darby and husband Shawn of Hadley, NY and Heather Adams and husband Jay of Castleton, VT. She is also survived by her three adoring grandchildren, Victoria Darby of Granville, NY, Ashley and Cody Adams of Castleton, VT. She also had two great-grandchildren that brought her great comfort during her battle Rosalyn Hollander-Essig and Steven Merrills Jr. of Granville, NY. Suzanne is also survived by her stepmother Elsie Newlin of Houston, Texas. Suzanne had an extensive extended family of many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws that were considered by her as her own brothers and sisters. She is predeceased by both her father and her mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Castleton Community Senior Center at 2108 Main Street, Castleton.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 11am in her gardens at 52 Eagles Nest Rd, Castleton, VT, at approximately 1pm we will have a short remembrance ceremony, per her request wear bright or flowered colors.
