Obituary

Valerie Taranovich Poremski of Lake Bomoseen, Vt died peacefully on Nov. 12, 2014 at the Misty Heather Morn Nursing home in Hydeville, Vt where she has been living for the past two years under the loving care of Fran Tice and her wonderful staff. Valerie was born to Christina and William Taranovich in Proctor, Vt on Jan. 25, 1919. She was the seventh born of the ten children of the Taranovich family. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class from Proctor High School in 1937 and attended Nursing School in Burlington. She married Bernard ( Red) Poremski in November of 1938 at St. Stanislaus Church in West Rutland, and was married for 67 years before "Red" predeceased her in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents and her four sisters, Josephine Pryzbyl, Jean Jenkins, Gloria La Pointe and Catherine Johnson and her five brothers, Match Taranovich, Brownie Taranovich, Flory Taranovich, Tofiel Taranovich and William Taranovich. She is survived by her son Bernard W. Poremski and wife Barbara of Rutland and daughter, Rosemary Rogers and husband Charles of Proctor and grandchildren John Poremski, Jeffrey Poremski, Michele Nelson, David Rogers, Karen Rogers and Matthew Rogers. She leaves six great grandchildren Jacquelynn Poremski DeSantis, Madison Poremski, Zachary Nelson, Sawyer Nelson, Eli Rosi and Ava Rosi and many nieces and nephews. Valerie spent her first 15 years of married life as a farmer's wife in Florence, Vermont where she worked as hard as any man doing farm work and caring for the animals. In 1957, she and "Red" became Inn keepers at the Edgewater at Lake Bomoseen and Val spent the next 57 years at this resort taking care of guests and running the Trak-In Restaurant. Val was an exceptional woman with boundless energy and enthusiasm for hotel work. In this career, she touched many lives and was held in high esteem by her many loyal guests who, while she was in the nursing home, always asked about Mrs. "P". Her first love was her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her " Bobbie". Her second love was Lake Bomoseen where, as a teenager, she worked as a waitress in the 1930's and then in the 1950's was able to live and work there for the rest of her life. Val loved to travel when she could and found great pleasure in spending time with her sister Gloria in New Smyrna Beach, FL in years past. Her favorite trips were traveling to Catholic shrines in Europe and Poland and she was privileged to see Pope John Paul in Rome. Val was a woman of strong faith and loved the Catholic Church. She is with her Savior now and is probably giving Him a piece of her mind for making her wait for so long. Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. To 8 p.m. at the Ducharme Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 14. The Funeral Mass will be at 2 pm on Nov. 15 , at St. John's Catholic Church on Main Street in Castleton. Burial will be at the hillside cemetery, with a reception for all following at the Trak- In Restaurant at Lake Bomoseen.
